Terror threats by Hindus pretending to be Muslims. Who poses real threat to communal harmony?

leave a comment »

Most people from all religions and regions want to live in peace, and prosper. But, some elements want to disturb peace and brotherhood for their mischievous goals. Here are some examples from an FB post by Markandey Katju dated Jan 12, 2015. The next time your friends ask, while watching TV or internet, “Why are Muslims the most violent people?” or “Why don’t Muslims want to live in peace?”, please remind them that in so many earlier cases, it wasn’t really Muslims who committed those crimes. And, please share this post with them.

There are also many cases where innocent Muslims were arrested and jailed, only to find months later that it was some right-wing Hindutva elements who committed those crimes. Please see the few links at the end of this post.

1-RSS-affiliated miscreants were caught red-handed hoisting Pakistani flag to foment communal tension.

2-Last month in a poster that surfaced in Kolkata one “Jamaat ul Mujahideen Bangladesh” terrorist threatened to bomb West Bengal. Days later, police traced the man behind the terror threat. It was Amiya Sarkar- a Hindu. (02 Dec 2014, The Statesman)

3-Earlier this month in Muzaffarnagar police arrested Hindu VHP worker Deshraj Singh for placing loaves of cow meat in front of at least three Hindu temples. ( 22 December 2014, NDTV )

4-Recently 16 ministers in Rajasthan got threat mails in which an “Indian Mujahideen (IM) terrorist” said that his group would launch series of terror attacks in the state. Police lodged an FIR against unknown IM terrorist group. Then, last week Rajasthan ATS tracked down a Hindu, Sushil Chaudhary, who reportedly had sent those threat mails posing as a Muslim IM terrorist. (28 December 2014, Times Of India)

5-This week another Hindu boy was held by Bangalore police for posting threatening tweets to bomb the city. He adopted a fake Muslim identity of Abul Khan to create his twitter page. ( 29 December, 2014, Hindustan Times )

Interestingly, none of these 5 Hindus have been booked for serious offences. While releasing them, after perhaps only some rounds of rebukes, the police and media made every effort to convince us that the men were stressed, depressed or mentally unsound.

Level of discrimination is increasing.

… The arrested are members of Sri Ram Sene, a pro-Hindutva outfit. According to the police, they allegedly hoisted the Pakistani flag and then blamed it on the town’s Muslim community. The accused were shifted to the Bellary district prison on Sunday morning as other inmates of the Bijapur district jail allegedly attacked them for being involved in “anti-national activities.”

Rakesh Math, the prime accused, was seriously injured in the fracas, and the remaining sustained minor injuries.

Meanwhile, members of the district unit of Sri Ram Sene have said the accused do not belong to their outfit but are members of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS)

Kolkata, 1 December:  A youth namely Amiyo Sarkar has been arrested in connection with the posters that warned of impending strikes at Sealdah railway station were put up on the walls of a club wall close to the Sir Ramesh Institution in Rajarhat on Thursday morning

Lucknow:  Police in Muzaffarnagar today arrested a Hindu man, Deshraj Singh, for temple desecration incidents at Parsauli village in communally sensitive Budhana.

(JAIPUR: The Rajasthan ATS on Saturday arrested a 34-year-old resident of Jaipur’s Murlipura area for sending threat emails to 16 ministers, warning them of terror strike by Indian Mujahideen on Republic Day)

… The boy, who is a first year engineering student, created a fake account using the name Abdul Khan and claimed responsibility for Sunday’s blast on Church Street. He also tagged Union home minister Rajnath Singh in a tweet where he said that there will be more blasts if pro-ISIS Twitter account handler Mehdi Biswas is not released

Four Hindu youths held for desecration of temple ()

It was not ‘jihadis,’ but four Hindu youths, instigated by two local leaders, who planted the legs of a cow and sprinkled green paint in a temple at Madanappet, sparking communal clashes in the old city three weeks ago, the police have said.

The youths have been arrested, and the police have launched a hunt for Niranjan, a wine merchant, and Srinivas, a moneylender, accused of masterminding the desecration.

The arrested were Nagaraj, who works as a contract sanitation supervisor in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation; Kiran Kumar, a florist; Ramesh, a hotel worker; and Dayanand Singh, a car driver. All of them hail from Kurmaguda of Madannapet

The BJP and the Hindu Munnani have been accusing Muslims for all the recent murders of their functionaries. Here are the news items that expose the real motives and the real culprits. (July 2013 Tamil)

A few incidents where Muslims were charged, but it wasn’t they who really committed the offences

NIA to nail Hindu radicals in Malegaon chargesheet:

Aseemanand owns up to strike on Mecca Masjid:

NEW DELHI: Aseemanand, the hardline Hindutva swami, has confessed to his involvement in the terror attack on Hyderabad’s Mecca Masjid, while confirming that bomb attacks on the mosques in Malegaon (in 2006 and 2008) as well as the Samjhauta Express were carried out by Hindu radicals and he knew about it.

What reportedly led to the confession: the swami was cared for in jail by a Muslim, who was wrongly arrested in the Mecca Masjid blast, leading to the act of “atonement”.

Downgrading ‘Terrorism’ to ‘Massacre’ and Ignoring Europol report

leave a comment »

Here is what Stephen M. Walt wrote in 2010 about the terrorism in Europe:

In 2009, there were fewer than 300 terrorist incidents in Europe, a 33 percent decline from the previous year. The vast majority of these incidents (237 out of 294) were conducted by indigenous European separatist groups, with another forty or so attributed to leftists and/or anarchists. According to the report, a grand total of one (1) attack was conducted by Islamists. Put differently, Islamist groups were responsible for a whopping 0.34 percent of all terrorist incidents in Europe in 2009. In addition, the report notes, ‘the number of arrests relating to Islamist terrorism (110) decreased by 41 percent compared to 2008, which continues the trend of a steady decrease since 2006.’

Newspapers & televisions initially reported “terrorist attack” in Oslo, Norway (at that time only 6 or 7 people were confirmed killed). When it became known that the attacker was a “Fundamentalist Christian” (in the attacker’s own words), the word terrorism disappeared. It became “massacre”, though 77 people were confirmed killed.

Here is a comment from NY Times, about that newspaper’s usage of the term.

I must say that as a Norwegian I feel somewhat angry that this cowardly action of terrorism has been downgraded to “massacre” in the US media now. Blowing up government buildings, targeting innocents, callously gunning down, in a most pre-mediated manner, a huge number of youths. What more do you need to call it terrorism?

And I note that on Friday before the perpetrator was caught, it _was_ terror – even though much fewer people had been confirmed killed.

Get your language straight: This was terror and _not_ a massacre. I will not speculate as to why the change of language was decided upon but it reflects badly on an otherwise outstanding newspaper.

At the Washington Post,  Jennifer Rubin quoted the Foundation for the Defense of Democracies’ Thomas Joscelyn and AEI scholar Gary Schmitt to say that the attacks were the result of Islamic terrorism. She then concluded the “jihadist” attack on Oslo means the U.S. shouldn’t cut military spending: “This is a sobering reminder for those who think it’s too expensive to wage a war against jihadists.”

The Atlantic Wire notes that “many in the media were left reeling over the fact that others were so quick to report and comment that Muslims were involved, before there was clear evidence.”. Here is their first-class analysis:

Charlie of Guardian said it perfectly in his article The news coverage of the Norway mass-killings was fact-free conjecture

Let’s be absolutely clear, it wasn’t experts speculating, it was guessers guessing – and they were terrible
