Global Trends 2025: A Transformed World

leave a comment »

Every 4 years, the National Intelligence Council (which oversees America’s collection of intelligence agencies) – releases a global trends report. This year’s report has some interesting observations on the declining power of US.

The way this report is prepared itself is very interesting – hundreds of experts from around the world  take part in this exercise which lasts for many months.

Here are three reasons (As observed by Gideon Rachman)

1. The wars in Iraq and Afghanistan have underlined that US military supremacy does not automatically translate into political victory.

2. The rise of China and India suggest that America’s days as the world’s largest economy are numbered.

3. The financial crisis has fed the notion that the US is living beyond its means and that something is badly wrong with the American model.
